Boat burglar charged

THE man breaking into narrowboats at Berkhamsted on the Grand Union Canal has been charged with burglary, after being caught shoplifting.

Lewis Bentley was discovered shoplifting at the Tesco store in the town, and in his attempt to get out he allegedly assaulted two members of staff before the police arrived.

Charged with burglaries

After being charged, further investigations discovered that he was responsible from break-ins of the narrowboats moored at the town, and was further charged with burglaries.

The burglaries relate to two boats that were broken into.  He was remanded in custody and will appear before magistrates on Monday.
