No Middlewich regeneration

THERE was hope that the Town Wharf regeneration in Middlewich would get a grant from Cheshire East Council so it could be started, but it has been refused.

It was the site owners who wanted the cash to be able to start the scheme on the Trent & Mersey Canal in the town, after the plan had been approved, but lack of money means it will not be started, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Boating facilities

The plan is to transform a derelict cottage and warehouse into a tourist destination with a canalside café, visitor centre and boating facilities below the three locks at a cost of £2m, with planning approval granted in 2010.

The problem is that half of the cost was to be given through the North West Development Agency, after the plans were approved, then the agency was scrapped, so no cash.
