EA keeps on the pressure

FOLLOWING the many prosecutions by the Environment Agency (EA) of boaters on the Thames without licences, the agency has now targeted the Medway.

The agency's inspectors discovered 120 boats without a valid licence, resulting in all of them issued with warning notices to pay, Alan Tilbury tells us.

£600 each

Of the 120, 17 thought it was a bluff, so failed to pay, but all 17 were taken to court it costing on average just under £600 each, comprising of a fine, court costs and then the cost of a licence.

The purge took place during March and April.
