The 'new' Samshiba

IT REALLY is a non-starter attempting to steal a narrowboat in this age of the internet, for straight away literally thousands of pairs of eyes can be on the look out—and of course there are no hiding places.

The owner, Chris Birkby, rang our contributor Pam Pickett this morning (Tuesday 14th) telling that the boat's licence is missing, but attached to the window inside the boat is one for Dazed and Bewildered obviously intending to be its new name.  Strangely the licence runs to December 2013.

Complete mess

Together with the police, Chris visited his boat on Saturday, to find its interior in a complete mess, with even the lining having been ripped out.  He however was assured that CCTV would protect his boat where it was.  (Photograph by Ian Gittins—confirmed.)

The woman who had stated she bought the 60ft narrowboat for £7.000, had fitted two identical padlocks, but Chris was given only one key.  It seems the CCTV did not protect the boat for the following day the alternative licence disk had gone!
