Deer in canal

A DEER had to be rescued yesterday (Wednesday) from the Fossdyke Navigation near Saxilby.

The normal rescue support unit with a boat attended from Lincoln Fire & Rescue, where the crews discovered the animal struggling in the middle of the waterway, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Harness attached

The deer moved towards the bank allowing a harness to be attached to it, so with ropes it was able to be pulled out of the water, where it was taken right away from the waterway to recover.

In answer to the people who consider it a waste of resources to rescue such animals, a spokesman for the force pointed out that if it had been left, members of the public may have tried their own rescue attempts that could have been dangerous.
