Waiting for bridge

IT WAS over a year ago that the footbridge over Diglis Basin on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal was taken down and renovated, but it still has not been put back in place.

The problem for the locals is that it is a missing link in a circular route that is broken by the missing bridge, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Ready for use

City and County Councillor Derek Prodger, told that the bridge over Diglis Basin has been ready for use for more than a year after it was renovated by Taylor Wimpey as part of its development in the area.

However the bridge is the property of Canal & River Trust, though the right of way is the responsibility of Worcestershire County Council.

It seems the delay is caused by safety concerns including the erection of signs telling cyclists to dismount, with the council working with the Trust.

A CaRT spokesman told that the bridge needs to adhere to the requirements of a conservation area and ensuring that the railings are safe before it can be put back.
