Cropredy Marina delayed

THE severe winter weather has delayed construction of the new  Cropredy Marina, that in turn has delayed its opening date.

The marina, situated North of Cropredy on the Oxford Canal was due to open at the start of the season, but its developer, Tim Langer, tells us that the severe weather has now put this back to early July.

Waterlogged

The main basin is fully excavated and the entrances have been constructed for the new 249 berth marina, but the ground is so waterlogged that operation has had to be suspended, with Tim relating:

"Our contractors have done a brilliant job to get as far as they have and, despite awful conditions, they have managed to keep work going on site until mid January. The project is fully funded, so as soon as the site dries out a bit they will be back on the job."

Dense clay

The ground at the site is dense clay, which is ideal for a marina, but it means that the heavy rainfall has caused standing water that is very slow to dry out.

Boaters who have booked moorings will however be accommodated at  Crick Marina on a temporary basis should they prefer, until Cropredy is open.
