Possible action over rusty bridge

Published: Wednesday, 04 April 2012

WITH all the pressure on Cheshire West and Chester Council and British Waterways to do something about the rusty Sutton Swing Bridge over the Weaver, it seems action might at last be taken.

At the Frodsham Town Council meeting recently it was 'implied' that Cheshire West and Chester Council were in 'serious' discussions with British Waterways over the swing bridge, Tom Reynolds writes.

Paint the bridge

What these serious discussions are, I'm not sure. Hopefully, the council will inform us all soon, but it seems my 'initiative' of December to paint this bridge has galvanised Cheshire West and Chester Council into overdue action.

It still amazes me that I was the only one, in December 2011 to realise just how badly the look of the bridge affected our area. It amazes me even more that I was the only one who realised the British Waterways refurbishment plan would be catastrophic on Frodsham business in particular and the area in general, by closing the road.

Vote of thanks

We need to give a loud vote of thanks to local and National media such as: BBC, Frodsham Life, Chester Chronicle and narrowboatworld.

I think all local councils should keep each other informed about progress with British Waterways.

No matter what, I'd really like to see Frodsham and Sutton councils endorse the original plan for volunteers to re-paint this 'eyesore' while the discussions continue with British Waterways.
