CART trustees frustrated

IN A report from the  Canal & River Trust (CART) its trustees relate that they are frustrated by its continuing delay.

Being delayed even further, now to 'late June or early July', the trustees at the first meeting of the organisation's advisory council in Birmingham revealed that it was nowhere near ready for the final transition, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Delayed again

The trust  was originally due to come into being this April, then a revised date of June was stated, but now it has been delayed again to late June or early July, but there is no actual confirmation of this.

Members at the meeting heard that there was still a lot of process to complete, and are still of course waiting for the important  Parliamentary approval of its Transfer Order.

It was stated:

"After having made such encouraging progress so far, with stakeholders and supporters fully behind the transfer, it is a little frustrating that we can't quite yet announce a launch date. We're now hoping to get underway during the summer window between the Queen's Diamond Jubilee  and the start of the Olympics."

Ahead of schedule

Strangely, the spokesman added that it was 'actually very much ahead of schedule, overall'.

We are told the trust has been collecting the views of people around the waterways, attending a workshop jointly hosted by British Waterways and of course the Inland Waterways Association. It has also undertaken pre-registration discussions with the Charity Commission.
