Boater saved by canoeist

A BOATER scrambling along the side of his narrowboat to fix his chimney could have died if it wasn't for the quick action of a canoeist.

Richard Ramsdale, a Canoe England coach, unable to use his normal stretch as it was frozen over, was paddling near Ken Jackson's narrowboat when he saw him slip off the ice on the boat into the Trent at Colwick Marina, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Grab hold

Ken was managing to cling on to his boat but was going under when Richard saw what was happening, and managed to grab hold of Ken and pull him out.

An ambulance was called, with a spokesman telling that Ken could easily have drowned in the icy conditions.

A boater for over 40 years Ken told that he was panicking, thinking he was going to go under, and was starting to lose consciousness when he was pulled out.
