BW appoints a giving manager

BRITISH Waterways has now appointed a giving manager to the ranks of new people who will oversee fundraising when it becomes Canal & River Trust

It has appointed Daniel Charles as its Individual Giving Manager, who joins already appointed Head of Fundraising, Ruth Ruderham, 'in building the giving strategy for the Canal & River Trust'.

Experienced professional

We are told Daniel is an experienced fund raising professional who was previously at Christian Aid for seven years. He has a wealth of individual giving experience and knowledge for both recruitment and retention.

Daniel enjoys developing and innovating fundraising and as such was integral in launching Christian Aid's growing fundraising programme, through the introduction of face to face, prospecting, as well as launching the organisation's virtual giving catalogue and mobile recruitment programme.

Excellent track record

Ruth Ruderham enthused:

"I'm so pleased that Daniel has joined the team, his track record is excellent and I have no doubt that he can help me secure the funding that we think the waterways deserve.

"We're working on one of the most exciting fundraising challenges out there at the moment so it's a great time to be involved. Daniel will be developing a long-term individual giving programme which will form the foundation of our fundraising work in this area."

Delighted

Daniel tells us:

"I am delighted to join British Waterways at the cusp of the transition to the Canal & River Trust. It's a really exciting challenge to build up an individual giving strategy in what is completely new territory for the organisation. I'm looking forward to getting to know the network better and recruiting new supporters for this important cause."

Though Ruth Ruderham was appointed on an annual salary of £70,300, we are not told of Daniel's salary, or if more people are to be appointed to the team.

Still doubt

There is still doubt about the Canal & River Trust, with Waterways Minister Richard Benyon admitting in the House of Commons yesterday:

"The length of the funding negotiations and parliamentary processes under the Public Bodies Act have put pressure on the launch date for the new charity. I will confirm shortly the date on which the new charity, subject to parliamentary consent, will be vested."
