Witham closure

LINCOLNSHIRE County Council, in discussion with the Environment Agency, wish to carry out works to the river wall alongside Waterside South in Lincoln, that will close the Witham for a month.

It is expected that these works will require British Waterways to close the Witham to boats on two occasions in 2012.

Extensive works

The condition of the wall necessitated the closure of Waterside South in Lincoln in 2011 and, although the council carried out some repairs, it would appear that more extensive works are needed, requiring water levels to be lowered.

The closure will take effect from Broadgate to Stamp End Lock, a length of approximately 550 yards, and each closure is anticipated to last two weeks.

The precise programme of works and exact dates are still to be agreed, but British Waterway has requested that the works are scheduled to avoid the busiest times for navigation thereby minimising disruption to boating.
