Hoping to attract boaters

ABINGDON Town Council hope to attract boaters to Abbey Meadow by the side of the Thames, with the intention of spending £2m on its revitalisation.

The plans to attract people to the leisure area will include a riverside café that will be licenced, together with other improvements, with a councillor stating that the council does not do enough for the location.

Stop the boats

Councillor Council leader Sandy Lovatt explained:

"The thought is if we had a licensed café there it would be more of a focal point.  A café would help stop the boats and give the walkers somewhere to go. It would form a gathering point for people to come and use the other facilities."

The park already has a heated outdoor pool, tennis courts, golf facilities and a children's water feature, but the improvements will not be likely for at least another year.

Abingdon is another town that is changing its name,  to Abingdon on Thames, that has to first be ratified.  However, it was formerly known under this name, so there should be no problem.
