THE Boat Safety Scheme has produced a number of Web pages in an effort for boaters to understand the the scheme and help them prepare for the examination.

The pages are a complete guide to the Boat Safety Scheme examination including preparing for examination, booking the examiner and complete details of every check on the boat.

Best practice

It contains useful best practice safety advice and other useful information pointers.

There is a list of examiners, where you can search for an examiner by name, by address or by county, with an interactive map.

There is also a link giving the latest news about the Boat Safety Scheme, safety alerts and recalls, as well as archived items.

Smoke alarm

According to the latest "Fire Kills" campaign, in just two to three breaths of toxic smoke from a fire on your boat, you could be unconscious. In recent years four people have died in boat fires at night or when they have been asleep and a working smoke alarm could have helped them to escape. Details are given about fitting a smoke alarm.

The pages contain a "Contact Us" page, should you have any questions, queries, comments or if you have a incident of fire or carbon monoxide poisoning or even a close call.
