Plans for Weaver marina

Published: Thursday, 17 November 2011

ONCE again a marina is going to be built as a catalyst for development, this time at Northwich on the Weaver.

The plans, just revealed, are for a leisure complex, a Waitrose supermarket and between 50 and 60 apartments around a 40 berths marina in the area where the Floatel hotel was once berthed, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Access

The new development will include access to the river together with a new public path, with the development including the site of the former Regal cinema.

British Waterways is involved with the development by H20, that is a joint venture company that it is stated is owned by British Waterways and Bloc.

Next year

A planning application is expected to be submitted early next year, but by that time British Waterways will be no more, which raises a question mark over the scheme.

Mike Coates, who is British Waterways Investment and Development Manager relates:

"The proposals will enable new investment in the waterways to maintain and enhance the local waterways network for the benefit of waterways users and provide public access to Northwich's new waterfront. The new development will be of the highest standards of design as befits the site's important location."
