Kidderminster canal flood

THE towpath through Kidderminster on the Staffs & Worcs Canal flooded early today (Friday) after all the paddles were left open on both Wolverley locks.

It is not known as to whether this was caused by vandals or an inexperienced boat crew, but the water level above Kidderminster was extremely low, yet the level through the town high, with a boater alerting the police by telling his boat was rising in the water, Alan Tilbury reports.

Flooded

The grounds between the two supermarkets,  Sainsbury's and Tesco, were flooded in the early hours, with the fear that the subway would be impassable.

British Waterways staff were able to bring water down to fill the pounds above Kidderminster and drain the water off in the town, so all was back to normal during the day, though there are reports that the towpath was damaged.
