More luxury appartments

PLANS have been submitted to build luxury apartments on land that includes the former  Bridgefield Mill and Britannia Mill sites by the side of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Accrington.

These have been quickly passed by Hyndburn's Planning Commitee to create luxury canalside apartments and houses where arson-hit terraces recently stood on Rishton's Spring Street.

Worst street

This was regarded as the ‘worst street' in East Lancashire, that had just been demolished, and where firefighters had been called out a record of 33 times in six months.

The plan is to demolish the existing mill buildings to make space for the apartments and houses, together with car parking spaces.

Councillor Harry Grayson told he would have liked to have seen more family homes in comparison to apartments, but overall the scheme is good news, and may attract more white collar workers to live alongside the canal.
