Dragon boat raises funds

FIVE men and five women paddled the Kennet & Avon Canal from Bath to Bristol to help install a water sanitation plant for African families.

The ten paddled a dragon boat along the 18 miles waterway between the two cities in just six hours—quicker than they expected, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Water Aid

To date the team have raised £1,100 by their efforts, which will go to the national Water Aid fund.  They found it hard work, as none of the team had done anything like it before.

The money will be used for a project in Mali to give access to clean water for around 4,000 people, as well as providing sanitation services. All the team work for either Wessex Water or GPS Panels and belong to Business4life, a group of companies who joined forces for a year to raise money for WaterAid.

Hope to raise £40,000

To date there is £11,000 in the fund but it is hoped to eventually raise £40,000.

The group had been trained by Rob Britton, of Bristol Empire Dragons, who also loaned the dragon boat for the challenge.
