Email: Priority is pedestrians

You may want to direct your correspondentĀ  to the Waterscape web site regarding cyclists on towpaths.

Sustrans is a charity promoting a healthy safe life style. That's it, they have no power although they like to comment about everything and feel important.

The priority for towpaths is pedestrians, and as soon as you step off your boat you become one. Only certain parts of the canal system are open to cyclists who should then have a cyclist permit displayed on their bike from British waterways.

This permit is a contract whereby the cyclist agrees to abide by a code of conduct, respect for others and their safety whilst using the designated towpaths for cyclists.

Details of designated areas are on the web site. The allowed routes are few and far between. More a case of Bike Off !
