Man shot on towpath

IT SEEMS our towpaths are becoming even more dangerous, for though muggings are now common-place with the occasional person pushed in the water we now risk getting shot!

A man was shot twice whilst walking the towpath in Aintree on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal this week, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Laying on towpath

He was discovered laying on the towpath close to  Hancock's Swing Bridge (pictured) with the emergency services being called and the 24 years old man rushed off to hospital in a critical condition.

The area around the bridge and the waterway was closed off whilst a search took place and divers combed the canal, with the police stating the matter is being taken extremely seriously.

A nearby resident spoke of hearing a scramble motorbike then two loud bangs, but thought little of it as motorbikes use the towpath regularly.
