A BOATER died when his boat caught fire on the Medway, though he was pulled out of the blaze.

The boat was moored on the river in Maidstone, and it was at 2am in the morning that the emergency services were alerted to the fire, but it was well alight when the firefighters arrived, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Pronounced dead

The firefighters rescued the man from the boat, but he was unconscious. They attempted resuscitation, that was taken over by the paramedics when they arrived, but he was later pronounced dead.

The police are at present working with the Kent Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the blaze.

It was told that the man was not the owner of the boat, but was looking after it for someone else.
