ONCE AGAIN THE NORTHWICH River Festival is taking place.
This time on Saturday 18th July, Janet Friend reports.
Dragon racing
This year there is dragon racing on the river with various teams as part of the Northwich River Festival.
This race will bring together teams from the community, businesses and charities to raise funds for charities, and is organised by Rotary in Northwich and held in partnership with the Canal & River Trust.
Tim Henshall, president-elect of Rotary in Northwich, explained:
"Rotary in Northwich is again proud of holding this annual event for the enjoyment of visitors, taking full advantage of the town’s rivers with dragon boat racing, entertainment and stalls.
"The day will end with our fantastic duck race which this year will be down the Weaver."
Must be able to swim
The dragon boat race is open to teams of 10 paddlers with a drummer, with all members required to be able to swim 50 metres confidently.
The festival ends with its famous duck race, with 2,000 ducks released from Town Bridge and ends near the Odeon.
Duck race tickets will soon be available online and can also be purchased on the day from the event headquarters.
The Northwich River Festival started in 2017 and has become one of the premier events at the town, attracting thousands of visitors.
