BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL built mooring pontoons in the docks at the cost of £670,000.
Too dangerous
But they were too dangerous, and so the resident boaters had to be relocated elsewhere around the docks, Janet Friend reports.
This was last year, with the pontoons in Bathurst Basin still not being brought up to a safe state.
It was the result of an inspection after complaints that found the deterioration of the pontoons. With all the boats then having to move from the site.
There were 32 boats that were effected and relocated, but they want to return to the basin as it is told they were a tight knit community and so want to be back in the basin, as the boaters are part of the Cabot Cruising Club. Image by B24/7.
Transported elsewhere
This is as some boats were actually lifted out of the water and transported elsewhere breaking up the community, with one boaters stating that 'the tight knit community has been left in limbo across the harbour with no timetable for when they can return to the regular moorings.
A spokesperson for Cabot Cruising Club remarked:
“As a central part of Bristol’s harbour community, Cabot Cruising Club committee and members were pleased to collaborate with the Harbour Authority to ensure the safe and efficient relocation of berth holders from Bathurst Basin.
“While this move has caused inevitable disruption, we appreciate the Harbour Authority’s action and we now look forward to receiving a confirmed timetable for the works and eagerly anticipate the installation of the new pontoon so our members can safely return home.”
