THE ALDERMASTON LIFT BRIDGE on the Kennet & Avon Canal is currently out of action.
It having sustained damage after being struck by a heavy lorry, Keith Gudgin reports.
This occurring this morning, Monday, and the bridge is now out of use.
West Berkshire Council
The damage has been reported to West Berkshire Council, who are responsible for the lift bridge, and so are responsible for assessing the work required and arranging any necessary repairs of the damage.
Canal & River Trust are currently awaiting confirmation of the timescales for remedial works that must be undertaken to get the bridge back in working order.
In the meantime, navigation at this location has been closed for safety reasons until further notice.
