IRON DONGER BRIDGE OVER THE Rochdale Canal that is Grade II listed, is to be restored.

When the bridge was constructed is contained decorative features but they were removed in 2024, with their deterioration making them unsafe and likely to fall on boats or pedestrians.

But there are plans to replace such decorative features during its restoration. The plans for the restoration were approved on Friday 8th May by Oldham Council.

Canal closed

Network Rail tell that for safety, both the canal and towpath will be closed for the duration of the work, though a date has not yet been agreed when this will start.

The closure would be between locks 61 and 62.
