A good job very well done

AFTER the last paint job on our boat had lasted all of five years, we thought this time we would have it done professionally, so  we went for the recommendation of Andy Cain at Kegworth.

And a very good choice it was too, though it did entail a little work on our part, for whereas the last so-called 'painter' simply painted over everything, Andy wanted everything taking off, down to a bare boat, though he did remove  then replace the vents on the roof for us, and one or two things we overlooked.

And where the last fella had obviously not gone down to bare metal, as shown by all the rust coming though, this time we actually saw it all bright and shiny with not a speck of rust or paint left on.

It was then Andy told us about the various coats of paint, and how one coat had to stand to allow it to 'breathe' before another coat was applied otherwise 'blisters' came through, going into great detail of the 'workings' of paint.  And when told we were having mats on the deck he emphasised the need to allow the paint to harden before anything was put on it, and told us to keep them off for six weeks.

Fact sheet

At the end he gave us a most revealing fact sheet depicting how to treat the paintwork, its cleaning and polishing, about the non-slip coating, trapping moisture and a great deal about repairs.

So a nice shiny boat, with not a blemish, which clearly shows the vast difference between a 'cheap' job and a professional one.

Better than when new

Altogether it was five weeks work, though the Soar kept it there much longer, but a job of which we are all delighted, believing it is better now than in fact when it was new!

Our verdict, a very professional job by a very concerned and helpful man. Heartily recommended. So much so we are breaking the rules by giving his telephone number—07801 754 509.
