THE prompt action of the Devizes Fire Service prevented a narrowboat being burnt-out on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

With flames erupting from the chimney of his narrowboat, the owner quickly alerted the fire service that managed to get the fire under control on his boat moored near Sells Green on the waterway.

As is normal nowadays, two appliances attended the incident, and the fires both in the chimney and the stove were soon doused, though it left a mess in the boat, but no serious damage.
