Paddington building rejection good news for boaters

WESTMINSTER City Council's rejection of a development is good news for boaters.

High rise development

The development of the Paddington Basin scheme would have replaced Travis Perkins yard with a 20 storey high rise 768 bedroom development and new store, Roger Fox reports.

PaddingtonBasinWith Roger telling that boaters visiting Paddington Basin will be familiar with the Travis Perkins timber yard on the east side of the canal. A development scheme to provide over 700 units of student accommodation on the site has been rejected by Westminster City Council as being too 'overbearing'.

This is good news for boaters as, by arrangement, it is possible still to have timber delivered to your boat, especially handy for DIY fit-out so the building rejection is good news for boaters.

Turned down

Westminster City Council has turned down proposals drawn up by Make Architects’ for a student housing development on the site of the Paddington builders’ yard.

Make Architects’ had already reduced the building by two stories from its original proposals since the scheme was lodged for planning last year, following fears about the development’s impact on the surrounding area.

However a meeting of Westminster’s planning committee on Tuesday sided with officers’ recommendations to reject the scheme, for reasons including loss of light to surrounding properties and a lack of full off-street servicing.
