Broken sewer closes Grand Canal

IF YOU are one of those that take boating holidays on the Irish canals, its Grand Canal has a stoppage until June.

Navigation between Locks 1 and 2 will remain closed at Inchicore due to the partial collapse of a trunk sewer in the city, Alan Tilbury reports.

As the works to the sewer are dependent on a number of factors and are outside of Waterways Ireland control, the date of the 31st May cannot yet be confirmed but updates will be issued when available.

Flooding

The navigable Shannon has suffered serious flooding over the past weeks, and now Waterways Ireland has been urged to work with farmers who are facing the flooding on the river as it initiates a new tourism masterplan for the river.

The farmers' representative stated it would be a 'win, win' situation for everyone if the the agency recognised that management of the river extended beyond the tourist market.
