Bridge at repair suffers damage

THE Stoppage on the Caldon Canal to Hazelhurst Bottom Lock has had to be extended as the accommodation bridge has collapsed.

This means further work will have to be carried out to demolish the bridge, taking the stoppage to the 9th April, Keith Gudgin reports.

Use of workers

It is not known how the damage occurred to the bridge as boats were not allowed, so it can only be assumed that it was caused as a result of use by the workers.

It requires to be demolished before the fitting of the bottom end lock gates can resume.
