REGARDING Derek Thompsons email item on 'Licence Disparity', he says the possible increases for wide beam boats don't affect him as a narrowboat owner. In his position I would say 'bring it on'! Writes Ray Smith.

After all, why should a widebeam boat with twice the space as a similar length 'narrowbeam' pay only the same licence fee?

Continuous Cruisers

Also regarding his comments on unlicensed boats and continuous cruisers, surely continuous cruisers should also pay for moorings, as do those with permanent moorings ?

Continuous Cruisers could be charged for moorings in addition the licence fee, as they all need to moor somewhere at night and when not actually on the move at other times.

Roving mooring charge

Why not 'roving mooring' charge, based on, say, some kind of average CaRT bankside permanent mooring fee, possibly phased in over several years to cushion the additional cost?
