Mercia from the air

A RARE photograph taken from the drone of Richard Triggs showing the extent of Mercia Marina from 150 feet.

The image perfectly captures the care and thought that has gone into landscaping and developing Europe's largest marina during the eight years it has been open, and reveals the marina community, which at near-full capacity hosts more than 600 boats.

New development

Richard, a keen photographer since joining the Merchant Navy in 1963, has also captured possibly the last view of the marina before building work starts on a new £3m office, restaurant and retail development adjacent to the existing Boardwalk development—the largest building in the centre of Richard's photograph.

Planning permission for the new three storey Piazza development at the Trent & Mersey Canal marina, has been granted by South Derbyshire District Council, and construction work is due to begin in the New Year.
