THE long-await permission for the development of the basin at the head of the Chesterfield Canal has at last been given the go-ahead.
This is part of the vast Chesterfield Waterside that was mooted some years ago but has laid dormant, with part now able to be built with permission given by Chesterfield Borough Council, Alan Tilbury tells us.
No date
No date however has been given when work will start that will include homes, office space, shops, bars and restaurants, on the former Trebor works site.
The Chesterfield Waterside was a £320 millions plan, stretching along the entire dual carriageway from the town to the Tesco roundabout, that was announced some years ago, but without progress.
Altogether it was to provide 1,000 homes and much more, sited between the dual carriageway and the Chesterfield Canal, it being announced as one of the largest regeneration projects in the country that will create 2,000 jobs.
However, this part of the Chesterfield Canal is not connected, with only Chesterfield Trust's trip boats using the restored section of the waterway.
