LAST year Easter [End of winter moorings] was in March so CaRT only issued winter mooring permits up to the end of February giving four months, (Nov, Dec, Jan & Feb), writes Keith Gudgin.
This year Easter is in April so there is an extra month of winter mooring allowed (March)?
CaRT or marina mooring
I'm not saying it is free but it is a consideration when choosing between a CaRT winter mooring or a private marina winter mooring!
I would also like to know where all these winter moorers are as I have not seen anyone on a winter mooring so far this year with most moorings being totally empty. There was just one last year in the same area.
Only need five moorings
If you think about it you only need five nice 14 day mooring places, stay at each of them twice over the winter and hey presto the 20 weeks of winter are gone, you have only moved 10 times and it doesn't need to be a long way, it ain't cost you a bean in mooring fees and you ain't stuck out the sticks either. So no need to court trouble by ping-ponging between a couple of moorings or over-staying etc!
If you think moving 10 times is a lot, then how many times will you move to get water and other services etc. during the same time period? I will pass a water point/services every time I move between my 'five' this winter so will not need to make a special journey.
Also all my mooring points are within walking distance of a water point in case I get frozen-in, so unless the tap is frozen then it's no major problem and a flask of hot water generally solves the frozen tap.
Also £1000 will buy a lot of....well I'm sure you can choose what to spend a £1000 on...!
