THOUGH a couple had spent seven months restoring a narrowboat on the Regents Canal it took just 20 minutes to suddenly sink, where it now rests on the bottom.
Dylan Stockli and Jahne Cleaver watched helplessly as their home took on water and sank in the Regent's Canal, Alan Tilbury tells us.
A sorry state
It was going to be their dream home, but when they took it over it was in a sorry state, with little that worked, with Jahne's mother being somewhat honest about it, telling:
"Living in an uninsulated, run down narrowboat with no electricity, cooking facilities, running water or toilet, took its toll on them both physically and mentally. The small space, lack of comfort, and constant work became at times too much."
Made it more liveable
But with lots of work and salvaging discarded equipment they slowly made it more liveable, but unbeknown to them the hull was seemingly unsound, and water came in, and all they could do was salvage their belongings.
The mother, Jeanette Cleaver, who lives in New Zealand, has launched a crowd-funding campaign to try and help the couple get back on their feet, with a target of £10,000.
