PLANS for a new marina on the Stratford Canal have now been approved as there was no local objections to the plans.
It was three years ago that the plans were first put forward for the 50 berths marina that will transform farmland by the waterway, with good access via the A3400, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Usual facilities
The plans include the usual facilities of toilets, etc and vehicle parking, with access to the boats by wooden walkways and boats moored at jetties.
It was the owner of the farm, David Amor, together with businessman David Cooke who thought up the idea of turning the farmland into a marina, with work starting straight away and the marina being ready to take boats by April next year.
Move more into marinas
David Cooke tells that there is a demand for a marina as there are only two moorings available within within 30 miles for boats over 34 feet long. He also remarks that Canal & River Trust are keen to move more people into marinas as opposed to canal-side moorings and facilities like this will offer owners a secure place to moor.
