I HAVE had passed on to me a list of Canal & River Trust's 'bigwigs' that attended the National Users' Forum meeting in Birmingham, writes James Henry.

Using the new 'get in touch' system devised by CaRT for boaters to be able to get answers, I dutifully filled it in a week ago, asking what all its people at the meeting actually did. But I have not had a reply.

Outnumbered boaters

Here is a list that attended, and as I understand the meeting was strictly by invitation only, I should imagine they outnumbered boaters, if there were any invited that is.

There were a dozen in all, headed by the Chief Executive, that we all know what he does, then a Trustee, but it is the other ten that I wanted to know about, so perhaps one of your readers could enlighten me.

Here they are:

Canal & River Trust Property Director
Canal & River Trust Operations & Customer Service Director
Canal & River Trust Head of Boating
Canal & River Trust Direct Services Manager
Canal & River Trust Integrated Delivery Team Manager
Canal & River Trust Head of Enforcement
Canal & River Trust National Asset Strategy Manager
Canal & River Trust Assistant Company Secretary
Canal & River Trust Relationship, Policy and Strategy Manager
Canal & River Trust Executive Assistant

Weird and wonderful titles, and I once remember long long ago you published that it was the well known Billy Butlin who told that instead of giving employees more money, give them a fancy title, that would make them feel important.

There are certainly some fancy titles here, but I'm not sure about it saving money, for it seems a waste to me.
