WHEN a boater just could not resist the wide expanse of  Winsford Bottom Flash at the top end of the Weaver, he soon discovered is was not as deep as it looked, so became stuck in the mud.

But someone making a call to the emergency services did not bring another boat to tow him off but the police, fire fighters and paramedics, Alan tilbury tells us.

Not needed

Of course without a boat they could do nothing, but as he pointed out no one was hurt, it was his boat that was stuck in the mud, and he really did not need two fire engines, a support services rescue vehicle, three police cars and an ambulance.

It was discovered that someone had alerted the police to the stranded boat, who in turn alerted the other services, all rushing to the flash, but soon discovered there was no risk to the boaters' safety.

Keep away

As to the boat, the outcome is not known, but it warns other boaters that tempting though the flash looks, it is best to keep away.

The picture shows the tempting Winsford Bottom Flash, with the sail boats ahead, but it is not for fairly deep draughted narrowboats.
