THE Braunston based London Narrowboat Project, that gives community groups and school children holidays and trips on the canals has celebrated its 35th birthday in an unusual way.

It all started way back in October 1981, when two teachers and a Scout master realised the benefits to young people of trips on the canals, so started the project with each of them donating five pounds each into a piggy bank, that soon swelled to enable the purchase of a narrowboat, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Once again

So to celebrate the 35th year of the project, and being inspired by the social media trend of donating one of the new fivers to a charity, the committee once again donated a new five pound note to the project's fund.

This happened at a special event at Braunston, with a birthday cake provided for invited guests—and the requests for a fiver!
