CRUISING on the Avon a narrowboat came to a sudden halt—it had hit a Landrover!

The crew of Golden Eagle just did not know what had happened as they were heading up river when their hire boat came to a stop, though it was surrounded by water, near Cleeve Prior, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Completely submerged

It was when the authorities were contacted that divers found a red Landrover Freelander completely submerged in the river but not enough for the boat to pass over.

As can be seen from the photograph (credited Evesham SNTS) the roof of the vehicle can be seen under the hull of the boat, where it became completely wedged.

Empty

A mobile crane was brought in that first pulled the narrowboat off the obstruction then lifted the Landrover out of the water where it was searched for any occupants, but was found to be empty.

The police are now attempting to trace the owner of the vehicle.
