THE steerer of a narrowboat attempting to turn on the Kennet & Avon Canal in Reading provided an interesting spectacle as it became completely wedged in what was obviously too short a space to turn.
This happened on Monday in the centre of the town, much to the amusement of the gathered spectators and the obvious discomfort of the steerer, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Tighter wedged
He revved the engine forward and in reverse in an attempt to get free, only succeeding in getting himself tighter wedged, and it was quite a while before he finally managed to free the boat. Photograph by Clive Butler.
The rest of his crew kept away inside!
