THREE MP's have been brought in by the Environment Agency to consider legislation to prevent boats illegally mooring on the Thames between Kingston and Richmond.

This follows the success resulting from pressure from the action group Reclaim the Riverbank in removing previously illegally moored boats (Another council gets tough), Roger Fox tells us.

Poor condition

These boats, many in poor condition and with detritus spread on the river bank, had been removed upstream of Teddington after pressure from residents.

A meeting was held last week with MP's Zac Goldsmith, Tania Mathias and James Berry to discuss  whether further legislation could be introduced to prevent a repeat of the problem.

Zac Goldsmith was not only concerned that the illegally moored boats were a blight on the river but the cause of pollution and could pose a fire risk.
