THE Macclesfield Canal is currently closed due to a breach and early indications are that it will be closed for a while.
This is at Parmerston Embankment with the waterway now closed between bridges 26 and 27 at Bollington, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Closed until further notice
The canal has been leaking for some time at the embankment, but has now reached the stage when so much water is being lost that the decision has been made to close the waterway until further notice.
We are told that further information will be given 'further into next week' after the Trust has made closer inspection of the breach. It is understood that stop planks will be inserted.
Boaters should notice that winding above the breach is between bridges 25 and 26, and below at Bollington Wharf.
