A BOATER lost control of his narrowboat at Diglis Lock on the Severn with it smashing into the weir boom, from where he had to be rescued.

The man's wife had left the boat to see the lock keeper when the strong current caught it as it came towards the lock, with it then firmly stuck on the weir boom, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Rescued by fire service

Though not in flood, the river was running fast, and once it caught the boat, the man had little chance of avoiding being trapped, from where he had to be rescued by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire service people later rescued the narrowboat, but the pair decided not to continue on the river in its present state.
