Clearing access to Titford Pools

Published: Monday, 16 March 2015

MEMBERS of the Birmingham Canal Navigations Society (BCNS) have been working to clear access to the Titford Pools, a canal reservoir which can be accessed, with difficulty by narrowboat.

Members of the BCNS have spent a number of weekends working on this project to clear overhanging branches which otherwise obstruct the entrance of the pools, Martin O'Keeffe tells us.

Once again cruise the pools

The effort is to ensure that narrowboats attending the event, held at the nearby historic Titford Pumphouse will once again be able to cruise up to and around the pools throughout the weekend. The Society's picture shows boats involved with clearing the branches to enable access to the pools.

Titford Pumphouse Open Weekend will be held on the 16th and 17th May when the area will be filled with stalls and displays from nearby canal societies, charities, etc. There will also be historic boats on disply, boat trips, refreshments and activities suitable for children and families including a treasure hunt.

The event runs from 11am until 4pm and admission is free. Titford Pumphouse is at the very end of Engine Street (off Tat Bank Road), Oldbury B69 4NL.
