The hole is plugged

THE hole that appeared in the Worcester & Birmingham Canal near Gas Street Basin in Birmingham has now been plugged, with the canal open.

It was back in February that it was discovered that the waterway was leaking, and a hole discovered, that caused the canal to be closed and subsequently drained for investigation Keith Gudgin tells us.

Underground railway

It was feared that an old underground railway was collapsing and that the problem was worse than a single leak, but this was found not to be the case, with just the one leak that was dealt with successfully.

The waterway was re-opened yesterday, Thursday.
