New marina for the Ashby

Published: Wednesday, 23 April 2014

A NEW marina is in the course of being constructed at Bosworth on the Ashby Canal, with its recent Open Day proving that there is great interest.

The successful Open Day earlier this month, proved more popular than the Trivett family who are building it had dared to anticipate. Visitors did not stop flowing, coming from all over the country, neither did the tea and biscuits from 9am until after 4pm.

Work and dedication

Chris Hubbard from the marina tells us that despite a chilly, windy day it was nice to see that, after all the hard work and dedication that had been put in over the past months, the basin and infrastructure are really taking shape.

Helen Trivett appreciated all the support that has been received, explaining:

"We would like to thank all the support that we had at the Open Day. On the day we were thrilled that there were so many boaters wanting to reserve their berth. We can now happily say that we have 25% of berths already taken.

The main building is really taking shape now and changing every day. The water is in and up to optimum level. We are waiting for the stilling test to be completed in couple of weeks' time so then we can connect to the canal".

Good progress

The project is making good progress with the towpath up to both sides of the new entrance bridge being formed with clay from the site and the final surfacing is being laid. It will then be fenced and the new towpath route will be ready for use. The clay plug will be removed in the next few weeks so that the entrance to the marina will be open. Additional roads, paths and car parking are being created.
