£212,000 to cruise a narrowboat

THE Taxpayers Alliance in Birmingham have branded the scheme as 'waste' to spend £210,000 of publicly funded money on cruising a narrowboat around the Birmingham Canal Navigations as a art project.

The money is being spent by the controversial Birmingham's Ikon Gallery, that has been given the cash by the Arts Council for its Black Country Voyages project, with the boat fitted out as a art gallery, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Economy struggles

The Taxpayers Alliance however has insisted the cash strapped public should not be expected to fund the art show while the economy continues to struggle, and has called for more private investors to pay.

Teenagers will help to crew the boat and lead activities on board, such as art workshops and various performances, stopping at various places along the BCN.
