Date for L&L opening

THE Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Rishton, where it has breached, will reopen for navigation on Thursday 21st November.

It may be remembered that it was in early September when the breach was discovered, at first by the collapse of the towpath, but as the canal emptied it was found there were sink holes in the canal bed, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Delayed

Work has been in progress for some time, but was delayed waiting for the special bed lining coming from Germany, and it will still be a month before it is completed.

We are told it is 'anticipated' that the waterway will be open again on the 21st November, and contractors will remain on site until December.
