More Cromford cash

MONEY has been awarded to Derbyshire County Council from Natural England towards the Cromford Canal.

The council has been awarded £76,000 in funding towards the waterways, that is to be spent on vegetation management, making the waterways more accessible, by clearing weeds, trimming trees and other bankside vegetation, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Invasive weed

The canal is particularly prone to the Himalayan Balsam, the invasive weed that can grow to a great height, and has been spotted at many sites along the waterway, with part of the money being used to control it.

As with other similar restorations, the Cromford Canal is a long term project, and will eventually be restored and ultimately connected to the main system via the Erewash Canal.
